I have a problem.
”So what’s new?,” some of you might ask.
To which I will respond, “Ha, ha.”
My problem is this.
When it’s a beautiful sunny day, I have an extremely hard time staying in the house. I want to be out. And about. I think my current inability to stay indoors had something to do with the last few years of my life, when I worked full time, homeschooled kids, and tried to keep up with housework. Going outside was pretty darn impossible. Like, never happened. So now, you can’t fence me in!! I’m out.
So anyway. It was a nice day, and the kids were bored, so I decided to take them for a hike in the Hullett Marsh.
If you want to know the truth, I also wanted to scope it out as a possible trail riding destination, as horses are allowed in until May.
Turns out it would be perfect.
Back to the kids.
We parked in the first parking lot we came too, and at the top of the hill was a lookout station.
Quin tried out the binoculars.
We could hear a cacophony of honking, but couldn’t see the geese.
But Quin found them. And we all took turns looking through the binoculars.
The view…
See the little red berries?
Imagine what this will look like once everything is green.
Do you see the two little dots in the water? Geese.
Nathan, checking to see which path to take.
Ava was hilarious. She had to lead. She would run, to stay ahead of everybody.
Sometimes she was way ahead.
“Climb eeeeevery Mountain!”
More view. This one is kinda depressing. Reminds me of fall.
See how far ahead the girls are? And that they are running? They are racing to be first.
One of my favourite boy faces.
See this? ICE. But it was just a little inlet. The big body of water was melted.
We heard Honking….
so we had to…..
stop and have a look.
Except for her.
She kept running…
What are they looking at?
This. Geese.
All the while we were walking, there was such a honking racket!!
I call this, “The Lonely Road.”
I call this, “ Geese on Ice”.
Quin, surveying his surroundings. He’s the strong, silent type. A thinker. He hardly talked at all during this trip, but he was watching everything, and thinking. It’s what he does best.
I’m lookin’ at you, lookin’ at me…..
Ava had a turn looking through the binoculars too.
Although she much preferred walking around.
We had to stop for a snack, ‘cause my children are unable to go a couple of hours without eating. If you noticed the backpack on Nate, he insisted on carrying it. Because it had the food,
A pose during the snack break.
And another one….
And Nathan entertained us with a song and dance routine.
Raise the roof!!!
I love this picture of Emma, except for that stupid shadow on her chin.
And see what we found?!? Half a fish. We interrupted somebody’s meal, ‘cause we found this on the way back, and it wasn't there when we first went by.
We also saw Raccoon tracks, and Deer tracks. Nathan identified them the fastest. And, of course, I didn’t take pictures of them. Duh.
“Tate a picher me!!” So I did.
And all of them.
Quin loved those binoculars.
I very nearly typed Bionicles. I’m tired.
It was a fun afternoon.
Wow. Those are some beautiful pics. The one of Nate's pose during snack break is awesome! Love the blues.
ReplyDeleteI agree... I've been out enjoying all the sunshine, too! I rebelled last week, and took holidays early. I was going to do school this week but... it didn't happen. ;) Next week for sure.
Geese on ice. *snort* Awesome.
