Scavenger Hunt, Sunsets and Wildlife

Today, as I was readying my front flower bed for the year,

Quin came up and asked if he could do a scavenger hunt.
And if he could have some Clementine's for the “treasure.”

I said sure, happy that they would be entertained.

They were, and left me alone for, like, 20 minutes!!

I didn’t realize till tonight how involved it was.

Check it out:
The map..

And the directional compass is right, by the way, in relation to our house.

If you look closer at the map,
there’s hints like this.
It tells you where on the property the clues are hidden.

The clue’s were numbered….

And once you found them all, it spelled out where the treasure was!!!

In the sandbox he had buried a box with the Clementines,
and marked a big X.

Cool, eh?

Nathan and Emma loved it.

We went to dance in Goderich tonight,

and I brought my camera with me in the car.

One of the blogs I like reading always posts amazing pictures she got
while out driving, and I decided I should do it too!!

By the way, you should totally check out her blog.
Gorgeous, amazing pictures.

Anyway.

As we were driving up, the sky was amazing.  The sun was breaking through a point in the storm clouds, and the rays were shining down….

You know.

But, I was late leaving and couldn’t take the time to stop.

Boo.

But, on the way home, I did stop.

And got some good sunset shots.

The light was reflecting off the storm clouds, and it looked like they were on fire.

Pretty gorgeous, eh?

We also saw these:
Can you see them?
Deer.
I know the picture’s fuzzy, it was dark and the kids were bored and would NOT stop shaking the van.
But if you look close you can see them

Every Wednesday we do a count of the wildlife we see on the way home.

Tonight the count was low.
These two deer and one raccoon.
And one dog, trotting down the road.

Last weeks count was 3 deer, at separate intervals,
4 raccoons,
5 cat’s,
and 3 bunnies.

That’s more indicative of what our counts usually are.

It’s funny, ‘cause the kids know not to fool around and distract me while driving home…
“Shhhh!  Mom’s gotta watch for DEER!”
And that is all for tonight.

  2. That treasure hunt looks pretty cool! Quin did a great job.

I see the deer, but they look like fairy deer - evanescent. It's neat. :)

That first sunset photo - gasp! Beautiful. Take your camera more often! :D

  3. Those sunset pics are awesome!! It really does look like the sky is on fire! Which would be considerably less awesome and more frightening if that were actually true.... ah well.

That's such a creative treasure map! Quin did a great job. What a good big brother! :)
