Today, the kids and I worked outside ALL day.
We started with carting wood.
Neighbors had cut down a bunch of pine trees on the other side of our lane, and we ended up being offered the wood.
Free wood I can not say no to.
So, I drove the minivan into the ditch, and loaded her up.
It took us three trips, but we got it all piled.
Then, we cleaned our winter storage area, set up the outdoor furniture and patio area, then ate lunch out side on the patio.
Then came the real work.
Yogrynch, otherwise known as Dad,
was scheduled to come and clear land for the Chicken Shack to be built, with his handy dandy tractor.
Since he was coming any way, I meant to make his trip worth while.
I want to move my garden from where it was, which I swear used to be part of the driveway, because it is FULL of gravel, to the other side of the drive way, which would hopefully be not so full of gravel.
The work comes in now.
When I had Dad till that spot last year,
I didn’t bother removing the sod first.
I figured the tractor would get rid of it, and I could rake out what was left.Well, I ended up having a war with grass the whole growing season last year. It was awful. I had to “weed” (pull grass) every day, or it would take over my plants.
I may make mistakes, but at least I learn from them.
And this year I was determined to not be at war with grass.
I like grass.
So, I got out my weeny round top shovel and went to work.
The kids shook out the dirt from the clumps of sod, and walked them across the driveway to the old garden site, and laid them there.
That spot I’m hoping will become pasture in the future, so if it’s a little bumpy, oh well.
It took us 5 hours to complete.
That’s not including breaks for food.
We actually started at 11am, and finished at 5:30pm.
We cleared a spot 30’x12’.
I’m hoping it’s big enough….I was very proud of my boys. They worked steadily alongside me.
Emma was dramatic, as she is.
Ava played happily, and squished any grubs we found.
It was a long hard day’s work.
And Yogrynch?
Never showed up.
I understand, as he has his own darn work to do.
The kids were mad, as they kept asking me, around 4pm, why we couldn’t leave the rest for tomorrow,
and I told them it was because Poppa was coming tonight!!
But I took them into town and bought them a package of 12 popsicles, which means they each got 3, and they were happy. My new garden spot is much better….. no gravel.
I’ll be able to plant enough to can some stuff for the winter.
Yay!
And I’m sure Poppa will be here tomorrow.
And I’m sure Jay will bring me a truckload of horse manure, to make my garden grow.
I didn’t get any pictures of today, as I was to busy working!!
But I did play around a little with that new photo editing software tonight….
wanna see the results?
That’s it.
My two favourite (non-human) boys.
I can barely walk,
”cause apparently my back objects to being bent over all day,
and I can barely type, ( I’ve fixed the word type 4 times now)
so my wrists are objecting,
but I got the job done.
So there.
Awesome to work hard beside your kids. Lovely pictures of Pax and Sirus.?. I understand the back and wrist thing. But think of the calories burnt! :) Bring on the working weather!
ReplyDeletePoor ole' yogrynch WAS doing his own stuff, because he remembered too late (around 4pm) to go. Plus, he was really ticked off at J, who took off with the only vehicle for the day, plus no wife around, so who remembers anything. I will try to remember to come Wednesday (today). But, call me in the morning - not too early - to remind me.
ReplyDeleteWow! That's a lot of grass to dig out. Good job, kiddos! No wonder you bought them popsicles.
ReplyDeleteI love productive days like that. Yesterday I got NOTHING done, because I was away all day visiting. Bleh.
Whew!
ReplyDeleteThat's a lot of work. Yay for no gravel, though!
