Today

I finished digging trenches.

No, there is no war.

The first three people I said this to asked that question, so I thought I would do a preemptive strike.

The trenched for the cement footing for my chicken shack.

Done.

Found lots of worms, and may I just say, they are a favourite snack for my little chickies.

I also went for a ride this evening.

And I have made a decision.

Pax is getting shod.

This was a big decision for me, as I firmly believe that barefoot is the best for a horse.  The frog needs to encounter the ground, and when it does, it’s like a pump,\
pumping fluid and blood back up those long spindly legs.

But.

Pax has struggled with his feet since I got him.

A a racehorse he would have been in training, thus shod, as a long yearling, (the summer he turned one; all racehorses change age in January of when they were born.  Pax was born in the summer.  This means he was barely one when put into training.  And thus shod.)

All this to say, his feet never had the chance to fully develop.

So, I was very patient.  I bought him a Biotin supplement to try and help his hoof growth.  All last summer I was very careful not to ride him on any hard surfaces, like gravel or pavement.  I put gravel in his entryway to the barn, to try to stimulate hoof growth.  And still he struggled with stone bruises and tender feet.

It’s been almost two years since he was barefoot.

And right now he has one giant crack in his off hind, and a smaller crack in his near fore.  His feet are totally chipped up and falling apart, and this is with NO heavy riding!!

AAARGH!!!!

So, I’m thinkin’, if his feet were going to improve, they would have by now.

I called my wonderful Farrier, and he is coming Monday to slap some shoes on my boy.
I’ll pull ‘em as soon as winter hits, but I figure, it can’t be fun for him either, to be picking his way, and being careful on certain surfaces.

If I’m a good blogger I’ll remember to take my camera, and get some pictures.

Which brings me to my next point.

Remember yesterday I said I had so much to say?

Well, I’ll cover one of the topics tonight….
THIS BLOG.

I was exploring some other blogs, and found some articles on how to improve your blog.

I like to be the best at whatever I do, so I read these with interest.
The main points were:
1) Think of a direction for your blog.  What are you trying to convey?
2)  Plan ahead.  Organize.  Using the format you’ve already decided upon.
3)  Blog ahead.  ie, write your blogs for the week at one time, to keep everything cohesive, and on the topic you’ve chosen for your blog.

There was other suggestions along these lines.

And I thought, “What a good idea! “

And then I went out and dug in the dirt.

And thought about it, and what direction I wanted for this, and how I could plan, and what niche I could fill.

Then you know what happened?

Reality set in.

I am not a planner.

I want to be.

I have bought a gazillion planners, in the hopes of becoming organized.

Anybody need a used/like new planner?

Including a very cool homeschooling one, retail $40,
I got it for $12 on sale,
but really, it would be worth the $40.  It’s THAT cool.

I wrote my name in the front.

And that is it.
Planning ahead is not my strong suit.

Sometimes I have thought of what I want to write about, sit down to write, and something totally different comes out.

But.

I tried to take this advice.

I started to think about the subject of my blog.

What should it be?
What do I want to convey?
What is the purpose of this blog?!?

I tried to think of something.
Should I write about homeschooling?  Christianity?  Being a Mom?
Raising chickens?  Riding?  WHAT?!?

Then I remembered back to when I started this.

Why did I start it?

To keep a record of our life.
To try to capture the moments of when my kids are still young.
Because time goes sooooo fast.
To have something that they can look back on, and see pictures of, and remember.
So I can remember.
So I can see how God works in our lives, and transforms.

What does this mean for you, my readers?

It means I will never have a successful blog.
It means if you want nice, orderly posts, only in the subjects you’re interested in, you’re at the wrong place.
If you want well thought out posts, all neat and tidy, you are as far away as you can be.
I am not well thought out.  Or a planner.  Or organized.  You will get my thoughts as they come.

All willy-nilly.

Because that is who I am.

All willy-nilly.

If I lose some readers, or never “make it” in blogland,
that is okay.

My kids like this blog.
And I’m sure they will when they are old, and can look back and show their kids snippets of their youth.

And how crazy their Mother was,

And that ends that.

Want to see pictures of my cute chicks?
Of COURSE you do.

  1. Yep - that's why I started my blog, too. But, mine has mostly morphed into a picture blog... but I'm okay with that. It'll still show my grandkids what we were up to. :)

Too bad about Pax. :( But, if he needs them, he needs them.

I'm jealous of your adorable chicks. I'm thinking we'll order some next spring. ;)

  2. I like that you blog aboot every thing it makes it fun to see what is next. I fell for your poor horse needing shoes. But you could put heavier ones on the front legs to make him go faster. Just to give him the edge over the coyotes! ;)

  3. I like your blog the way it is! My blog has devolved from written posts to picture posts to no posts at all. :/

I like using my blog as a journal to keep track of all the important things. Some things in Deklan's baby book I've filled out after going back through my blog and finding whatever fact I needed to write down!

Your blog is awesome. Your posts are honest and funny, and you post way more regularly than I do. XD

  4. Keep your blog as it is! >:| If you changed it and made it all fancy and on topic I'd be like "whatdaheck is dis?"

    Farrier's coming Monday? Okayyyyy...that's good.

...I have to write more blogs. :\

  5. Agreed - leave your "blog" the way it is. That way, when someone complains about mine, I can always use yours as the bad example...

Besides, random is good, like building various things with lego - sameness is dull and boring.
